"We thank the Lord for using our hands to fulfill his will. Think about the miracles that God has performed in your life and wait for His protection", - Iryna Galadza.

During the festive celebrations on the occasion of the beginning of the liturgical and academic year, Iryna Galadza - a catechist, an active church and public figure, a [former] director of the Catechetical Resource Center of the UGCC Eparchy of Toronto, a founder of the priests' wives movement in Canada, was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa at UCU.  She is the wife of Mitrophoric Archpriest +Roman Galadza, of blessed memory, founding pastor of St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church in Brampton Ontario Canada.

The Vice President of UCU, Father Dr. Bohdan Prah, gave a introduction  to the honorary doctor. He emphasized that it is the tradition of the Ukrainian Catholic University to celebrate people who demonstrate Christian values by their life attitude. Individuals whose sacrifice and daily dedication stem from the need of the heart and love for God through service to one's neighbour. Pani Iryna is just that.

The entire life of Pani Iryna Galadza was filled with the atmosphere of the tradition of priestly families and church service. She comes from the priestly family of Bishko and Lazurko. Her grandfather was a priest in the village of Nahachiv in the Lviv region. The parish of St. Basil in [Broadalbin NY] USA helped Pani Iryna's family emigrate in 1949 from a camp for temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine.  Her late father took care of that temple. Her mother followed all the church traditions that she learned in her family. From a young age, Pani.Iryna also belonged to "Plast", and this also influenced her upbringing.

Iryna Galadza moved with her husband Fr. Roman  to Canada from the USA  and the first years in the new country were quite difficult as the parish community had to be built from scratch. The couple did this with great faith in God and love, preserving the traditions of our Church.

Together with her husband, they raised six beautiful children - Anastasia, Larisa, Nikolai, Sofia, Valentyna and Ilya. Their daughter Larisa Galadza, a senator of the UCU, until recently the ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, says that she learned to be a diplomat in the family, because you had to be able to negotiate with everyone, because there were always many people at home.

”Pani. Dobrodiyka Iryna does everything with joy and humility. Sincere prayer and tireless sacrifice, her life is filled with the evangelical virtue of loving God and neighbour. She has a great gift of embodying this love in her daily life. Thus, Mrs. Iryna never said "no" to anyone - only the devil and evil. And a resounding "YES" to God and neighbour. She lived and lives this way all her life, and is an example for all of us," stressed Fr. Bohdan Prah.
